I have yet to meet someone that has not had a story about a horse that has touched their lives in one way or another. Some stories are good and some end with the person being afraid of the horses. Ninety percent of the time though, the person telling me the story will end off with, "Someday I would like to try it again."
Why? What is it about these beautiful creatures that make our hearts and souls yearn to be accepted by them? These amazing animals that come in so many different colors, breeds, sizes and temperaments? Why is that time in a barn tending to these beautiful animals can be as healing as time spent on their backs?
I have seen both adults and children enter our barn after a bad day or having experienced a recent traumatic event, once they enter the stall, the horse knows - and the bonding process starts. The horses require no words to describe the
events, they can simply just feel. I found that the horses read our students, far better than we humans ever can.
Hearts that Heal Riding School was originally a dream of mine. I myself had experienced the healing and confidence building benefits that working with these horses had, and I wanted to share it with other people. Sometimes the answer to your problems is not in a bottle, it can be found in a pair of beautiful brown eyes that only want to spend time with you.
Our program is a non-profit 501c3 that is run by an army of volunteers. All of the funding the school takes in, goes right back into our horses' care and feed and the upkeep of our facilities. There are no paychecks in our organization.
The experience this gives our students is that the person helping you with your horse is here because they want to be here, that is the only reason. All of our volunteers share the same goal, we want to see you succeed.
Some students come with big aspirations, while others just want to make it through the first lesson. Our program is built on the students' confidence. They progress as fast as they want, so long as we feel they are safe. We only need to sometimes remind our students to just breathe and the rest is like a dance, there is a four beat rhythm to the best part of their day.
So we invite you to come and learn your own dance, between you and one of our amazing horses here at our facility.
